Terang Racing Tips 19 April 2026 — can Wilde boss the hurdles again?
Terang Racing Tips 19 April 2026 — can Wilde boss the hurdles again?
When Terang throws up a jumps-heavy Sunday, I want one thing straight away: which yard actually treats this place like a proper target. Symon Wilde does. He’s had 13 runners here for four winners and eight placings, and that’s not a two-run fairy tale, that’s a stable with a map in its glovebox. With D M Parker also owning the joint from a small but meaningful set of rides here, the combo matters on a card where plenty of the runners are new faces at the track.
We’ve got three hurdle races on turf, kicking off at 12:20, and the angles are clean: a Maher double-pronged maiden attack early, a mid-card hurdle where the in-form old boy might still be underpriced on ability, then the better class BM115 where the weights ask the sharp questions. These Terang racing tips lean into the few solid track patterns we do have, then let the form and race shape do the heavy lifting where the samples are thin.
Terang — the setup
Limited course form across today’s fields, especially among the hurdlers, so don’t overplay “track experience” unless the runner has actually been here a few times. For most of them, Terang is simply another country circuit and the basics, fitness, obstacle craft, and tempo matter more than a line in a spreadsheet.
Where the Terang profile does help is in the people: Wilde is the only stable on the card with proper volume and a strike rate that means something, and Parker has made a habit of riding the place well when he turns up.

Race-by-race Terang predictions
Race 1: Victory Treadmills Mdn Hrdl — 12:20, 3500
The Maher yard doesn’t rock up to a maiden hurdle with two unless they think they can win it, and I’m siding with Ongatiti to be the one that jumps cleaner and finishes harder. He’s the youngest of the Maher pair at five, carries 153.2, and gets Cillin Leonard, which reads like connections wanting a rider who’ll keep him out of trouble rather than make it a sprint-home.
This looks a proper “new-to-hurdles” puzzle more than a polished form race: plenty of these are learning at speed, and 3500 at Terang can turn into a war of attrition if they overdo it early. From a wide alley (10), I’d rather be on the runner whose stable routinely has them fit enough to hold a long run.
The danger is Ardakan, the other Maher runner, with S Pateman aboard. He’s got the inside-ish draw (2) and the sort of jockey you want if the race turns tactical late. If Ardakan jumps slick and controls a softish tempo, he can pinch it.
One to keep safe at a price is Rich Champagne (form “3”), trained by Andrew Bobbin. If he repeats anything like that effort and simply jumps adequately, he can land in the first three.
Staking: Win bet Ongatiti. Small saver exacta Ongatiti and Ardakan if you’re playing exotics.
Race 2: Ecycle Solutions MJ Bourke Hrdl — 13:00, 3500
This is the race where I’m happiest to be firm. Fabalot brings the right kind of momentum (form: 13212) and he’s with Shane Jackson, a yard that regularly has its jumpers ready to run. The weights ask him to do some work at 152.1, but he’s the one you can trust to turn it into a proper staying test and still have something to give late.
The market normally leans to the lighter-weighted improvers in these, but I’m not sure you want to get cute when the reliable old boy keeps turning up and running to a level. Over the last 90 days he’s only had the one run, but it was good enough to finish second and bank prize money, which tells you he’s coming here fit and competitive rather than just ticking over.
Castrofrancaru is the clear danger. He gets in a bit lighter (148.8), S Pateman takes the ride, and his form line (12232/) screams consistency. If Fabalot makes any mistakes, Castrofrancaru will be the one taking advantage.
For the roughie players, Hit The Road Jack has upside on his recent form string (2-54511) and gets D M Parker, who rides Terang as well as anyone. His only track visit reads “finished 5th” rather than a calling card, but it does mean he’s seen the place.
Staking: Win bet Fabalot. Quinella saver with Castrofrancaru if you want protection.

Race 3: Laurie Kenna Oam Hrdl (Bm115) — 13:40, 3500
Does the topweight get away with it, or does the handicap finally bite? That’s the whole race. Stockman comes in with a tidy form line (2312), and Wilde placing him here with D M Parker is the exact stable-jockey signal I want to follow at this track. Parker’s only had three rides here, but he’s won twice and hit the frame on all three. You don’t need to gild it: he rides Terang well.
The knock is obvious: 157.6 is a lump, and in a 3500 hurdle you pay for every extra kilo if they go hard from the mile and a half out. Still, Stockman’s profile reads like a horse that can absorb pressure and keep finding, and Wilde’s overall Terang record (13 runners, four winners, eight placings) supports the idea that this isn’t a speculative placement.
The danger is Golden Crusader. He’s got the last-start “1” next to his name, Pateman rides, and he draws 1 which gives him every chance to hold a spot and make Stockman chase. If the leaders steal cheap sectionals, the big weight becomes a bigger problem.
Alibey also deserves respect with T Ryan aboard and a form snippet of 13-. He’s lightly exposed in this kind of grade and might be the one with improvement if the race turns into a dash from the home turn.
Staking: Win bet Stockman, but keep it sensible because of the weight. If you’re playing multiples, he’s the anchor I trust most on the card.
The plays
NAP: Fabalot (Race 2, 13:00). The form line is rock-solid for this level and he looks like the runner most likely to make the race a staying contest rather than a lucky last-400m lottery.
Value: Ongatiti (Race 1, 12:20). You’re paying for stable intent in a maiden hurdle with plenty of unknowns, and Maher bringing two here suggests they’ve done the homework at home.
Banker for multis: Stockman (Race 3, 13:40). The weight keeps you honest, but the Wilde and Parker combination at Terang gives him a base level of trust that others on the card don’t have.
Each-way angle: Castrofrancaru (Race 2, 13:00). Consistency and a senior jump jockey in Pateman makes him the safest “run well again” type if you’d rather get paid for top-two or top-three.
Course angle to remember: When Wilde brings a jumper to Terang, treat it like a deliberate placement, not a casual day out. If this pattern keeps building, it becomes the first thing you check every Terang meeting.

I’m building the day around Fabalot in Race 2 (13:00) as the main win play, then Stockman in the BM115 (Race 3, 13:40) as the multi anchor despite the topweight. If you want a lighter-risk early play, Ongatiti in the maiden hurdle (Race 1, 12:20) makes sense off stable intent.
