BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.6 BEAUTY WAVES
The Pierre Ng trained BEAUTY WAVES is yet to win this time in but has shown plenty of potential in recent trials and looks nicely placed here to bring up career-win number three tonight. Last start, the Starspangledbanner gelding made it four-straight podium finishes when he beat all but home (again) in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m with Zac Purton aboard. He led on settling and looked like leading all the way, but couldn’t hold off a swooper who grabbed him in the final 100m of the race. The stable drop him back to the 1000m tonight where he is already a two-time winner and Purton will steer the ship again. Nicely drawn in gate five, his early gate speed has him settling in the first four and at his peak tonight, he looks the benchmark in this contest.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 9: No.4 BEAUTY INFINITY
John Size saddles-up his beauty here with BEAUTY INFINITY facing his second test against Class 3 company in this contest. Last start, the Toronado gelding fared well as he stepped up in grade and took home third prize in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m. Never on the track, Purton tried everything to get him closer top the fence without success. Pushed even wider on the turn, he showed great fighting prowess in the run home and finished within a length of victory, taking ground off them over the final 200m as they clocked 1:09.9 for the trip. From gate six tonight, it’s a lottery where he will end up on settling but now six starts into this campaign, he will certainly be at his fittest. Purton sticks with him tonight and he lines-up as one of the major chances.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.4 DRAGON STAR
The Pierre Ng-trained DRAGON STAR has finished just behind the money in his last few outings but with the large claim tonight, looks a strong chance of bouncing back to the winner’s circle in this contest. Last start, the Pride Of Dubai gelding made it a hat-trick of fourth placings when he finished less than two lengths behind the winner in a Class 4 Hcp, here over the 1650m trip. Drawn wide, he was trapped four-deep for the first 600m until he pushed forward and eventually took up the front-running. On straightening, he still led but the early work done took its toll, and the eventual placegetters grabbed him in the final stages, leaving him fourth-place money again. Those race tactics clearly didn’t work so drawn out again tonight (gate 9 of 12), we may see a different plan of attack. Coming in 2kgs under the limit with just 50kgs to carry, he can stake a claim for victory in this event.
