Moonee Valley Tips Friday March 25

Looking for expert tips and best bets for racing at Moonee Valley? Our form analysts pick out their best chances for racing at The Valley.

Moonee Valley is widely-recognised for its short home-straight of only 173m, making it the shortest of any course in Australia. The Valley track stages around 27 race meetings a year and we pick out the best chances to be backing.

Don’t mind POINT BLAZE ($6 with Sportsbet) in Race 2 of the night at Moonee Valley. The South Australian mare resumed at Morphettville in Listed grade on March 14 and settled behind the leaders before sticking on well for 4th behind Ironclad. She was held up but did seem to have her chance. Figures out of that look solid and she went 6.9 lengths faster than standard, which is nearly five lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner in this race. At her last campaign, the daughter of Shamus Award improved a couple of lengths to win second up, while she is likely to race on the speed here with the 3kg claimer, Laura Lafferty, to ride.

The fillies and mares feature in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes and FLYING MASCOT ($1.70 with Palmerbet) is a clear top pick. The Tom Dabernig-trained galloper was grabbed by the Group 1 galloper, Probabeel, when resuming at Caulfield but has been too good for the mares since then with Group wins at Caulfield over the 1400m and Flemington over the 1600m. The four-year-old went 11 lengths faster than standard at her latest and when fourth up in the spring she was a slight improver on figures when 5th at Group 1 level behind Colette. At her only start at the track and trip she was a dominant four-length winner in the Tesio Stakes on Cox Plate day ahead of the likes of Starelle and Annavisto. Hard to see her getting rolled here.

Very hard to make a case for anything other than MARABI ($1.70 with Sportsbet) in the feature of the night. She might be at short odds but has handled everything that has been thrown at her in her short career and has the Moonee Valley form on the board, while the figures that she produced at Caulfield in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) suggest that she is something special. The daughter of I Am Invincible has the early pace to settle outside the lead and can burn the candle at both ends if required.

The final event of the evening is the Alexandra Stakes for the fillies and BON’S A PEARLA ($6 with bet365) can go very close after running a bottler in the recent Australian Guineas (1600m) against the boys. The Kevin Corstens-trained galloper settled back in that race at a big price and loved the tempo, hitting the lead at the 200m before just going down late behind Hitotsu and Lightsaber. That was the third run of her current campaign and she was a fourth up winner against the fillies at Caulfield at Group 2 level in the spring over the 1400m before having plenty of excuses in the Thousand Guineas (1600m). A lot will depend on the speed in this race but hard to ignore her form and she might just have a class edge on these.
