Is There A Barrier Draw Bias in the Robert Sangster Stakes?

Unlike a lot of Group 1 races where winners have come from either inside-to-middle draws or an even spread, the Robert Sangster Stakes has produced a significant number of winners from wider barrier draws.

Barriers such as nine, 11, 12 and 13 have all featured prominently in the winner’s circle after the Group 1 running.

Based on current information on hand since 1983, only five winners have jumped from barriers five or lower (as of 2021). This is a remarkable statistic and may prove that drawing a bit wider in the Robert Sangster Stakes is more beneficial.
